"Never say goodbye" -Peter Pan

It is bittersweet to be writing my last blog post tonight for North Hero School. I have enjoyed every moment in this community. Your children and your support have what made it the most amazing and heart felt experience any educator should be honored to endure. The early mornings, busy days and late nights were never thought about because I woke up everyday excited for work. Excited to see the students, parents and coworkers who became like family to me.

Thank you to everyone who believed and supported me. I hope that this is not goodbye, but "see you later" where our paths cross again. Thank you!

Celebration of Third and Fourth Grade!

To celebrate all of the hard work and perseverance from our year, we cooled off by having an ice-cream party! The students and I enjoyed this time together to talk about summer plans, our favorite parts of the year and were able to have conversations other than academics. This moment was very special for me and I hope everyone has a wonderful summer!

Reports! Get your Reports!

After a few long days of some serious project time, Room 138 created outstanding book report projects. Their goal was to create something tangible that represented their book. Their presentation included a description and write up of their book along with explanation of the project they chose. When you let children go with a few art supplies and a little space, amazing creations are made.
Great job third and fourth graders!

Children Authors "Visit"

We were so honored to have 16 children book authors come into school to read one of their published books to the Kinderstars. Room 138 worked so hard through the writing process and the final product was a written and illustrated Fairy Tale book. After much studying and investigating of well written Fairy Tales, we used the elements found to create our own or adapt a familiar tale.

STEM FRIDAY May

Fourth graders were able to join me last week in a few STEM projects. This task was to use a rubber band, string and teamwork to make a pyramid with the cups, with no hands! It was tricky but once they all communicated they were able to accomplish the task!

These readers are so BRIGHT!

We did some major cleaning up of our understanding of the book report books we have been reading. We needed a clear head and a clear spot to read, so we took advantage of this amazing day! I am so excited to see these projects next week!

Jump Rope For Heart

Students spent some time fundraising the past few weeks to support the American Heart Association. On Monday they completed their Jump Rope For Heart Challenge. During PE and as a whole school, students partnered up and switched on and off in order to jump their hearts out!
Great job everyone!

Experiment Friday!

Students in room 138 have been working on the characteristics of light and how light is everywhere! They have been working hard on using the vocabulary and understanding why light is somewhat magical... or well, scientific!
Today, the students got to complete four different stations involving some water, some money, and a turning arrow!?! It was amazing how these scientists put their heads together and were able to solve the guiding questions.

Let there be light!

We just begun our new science unit on light. We will be discussing how light gives off energy and its importance to us here on Earth. The last few days we have done work with vocabulary that is important to light. Today we even did a light hunt on different forms of light!

Once Upon a Time

Third and fourth graders have been busy researching classic fairy tales paying close attention to their elements and retelling it in their own way! They have been so creative and I am so excited for our next portion of this unit... Making our own!

Lake Champlain Day!

ILoVermont

I decided to have students tell you about our field trip Monday!

"We went on the bus, then we went to Lake Champlain.
When we got off the bus we were getting tickets to get on the boat.
We went to the dinning room hall on the boat. Then we had to wait in the seats before we pass the rocks.
Then we got to go out on the front deck.
When we got to the front we started to take pictures with everybody. Went back inside and had to wait.
We went outside to the back and went up.
Then we went back down so we could get back off the boat.
After the boat we ate lunch on the pier and walked to battery park to play on the playground."
H. Wimble

"When we got off the bus to go on the boat, the captains had to explain that we need tickets and Miss Ransom lost her ticket. We got on the boat and there was three floor and we stayed on the middle floor most of the time. We went out on the balcony and the sky deck. When we got off the boat we went to Ecco to eat lunch. Then we walked to battery Park to play on the playground and went back to school."

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...

... And be innovative!

Students in room 138 took the time to keep track of what they actually do with their trash. We became aware of what can be recycled and what can be reused! We become inventors on Friday, when we used all of our recycled materials and created robot models that would help protect our environment! After giving a presentation and description of each robot I am confident that we have some engineers and scientist in our future.

"We Are All In This Together"

"Heavy hearts, like heavy clouds in the sky, are best relieved by the letting of a little water"

Today was an emotional day in Room 138. It is tough to be a kid and it is always a struggle to find the right words to say (at any age) but especially while growing up. This activity was helpful for us to realize that we are all going through something personal and we continue to be strong here at school every single day!
As we sat down and wrote something heavy in our heart and on our mind we crumpled it up and began to cry. This moment was something we will never forget and continue to learn from. We will all know that anyone we meet or pass is going through something and we must always be humble and kind.

Our wall of Friends

Students in 3/4 have been studying the American Revolution and its significance in Vermont. They have been taught a lot of dates, important places and Historical figures. Most learned the most through hearing about these peoples lives and their connection during this time. We researched and studied all walks of life in this time. Below are some examples of our Facebook friends! :)

Spring Has Sprung!

We have started doing some planning for The North Hero School Garden!

Today's job was to start the seedlings in seed pods. They will be germinating over the weekend so we can begin planting. Students in grade 3- began planning out what we should obtain in our garden and where they should be placed based on origin and growth! This was a wonderful afternoon together!
Keep it up green thumbs!

Maple Sugaring

Wimble Family Maple Sugaring Presentation!

Friday we were able to get a "taste" of what it is like to go through the maple sugaring process. We learned more things than we ever knew before, while listening to Hailey and her father speak to us about their process in maple sugaring. Thank you so much Wimble family!

Mr. Wimble and Hailey begin their presentation.

Hailey gave a great run through of the steps it takes to tap a  tree.

Showing us how they tap a tree.

From sap to syrup.

Exploring with the materials.

TASTE TEST! mmm.

Music Soothes the Soul.

Oh... Fiddlesticks!

We had a wonderful presentation on string instruments from members of VSO who have branched off to have their own group called, Fiddlesticks. Our class were experts when they were having discussions about sound! There is something about music that gets your body moving!
Thanks for coming Fiddlesticks!
