The Great Debate

Room 138 Debates

Students prepared speeches to persuade their classmates and myself on what they think needs to change or be added to our school. A majority of the class chose the topic of lunch and made some interesting statements. I have been convinced to add more Scholastic News time in our weeks and will be trying to find more time for writing. The students spoke and I heard!
Great job 3/4!
To start us in our debate mode, one of our Scholastic News articles posed an interesting debate for us; Should Kids Be On Instagram?
This was a wonderful teaching moment on many levels. We talked about internet safety, we discussed our opinions with factual information, and we found something interesting about our classes input on the age kids should be aloud to join social media. We are going to have a great adventure through this unit.

"History We Learn From Its Mistakes"

Thanks to Mr. R for making our classroom go back in time to feel what it was like to be a soldier in the American Revolution. We enjoyed this interactive lesson and are looking forward to building informational comic strips!

Don't Get Stuck!

Parents and Guardians!
Let’s not get stuck! We all know Vermont has an extra season and that is Mud Season! Although we still may get another snow storm mud, has come to North Hero School.
Please continue to send your child in with boots and snow pants.
This is for the comfort of your child. If snow pants are too excessive, please send in wind pants or extra pants made for this weather. Thank you! J

Read Around America

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

We had an "ice day" on our Dr. Seuss day, so we integrated as much as we could into out normal schedule. Today we had a special snack and browsed some of Dr. Seuss most popular books! Each student also received a book, thanks to all of our orders from Scholastic Book Club! We are ecstatic to continue our non-fiction reading work.
